Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) is a three-year undergraduate degree that offers knowledge and skills to aspirants to prepare them for a professional career in social welfare. The course is divided into six semesters into most of the universities and colleges. BSW enables students to apply their knowledge and consciously applying these practices in the real world to help masses suffering from poverty, violence, mental illness, homelessness, and diseases like AIDS and cancer. BSW is available both full time and part-time (distance education program and correspondence).

Institutes or colleges offering admission into the Bachelor Of Social Work (BSW) programme prepare a merit list on the basis of the qualifying exam scores of the applicants. On the basis of the merit list or cut off list, these institutions allocate seats to the applicants. Some institutes like Amity University does not even prepare a merit list for the purpose of admission into the BSW programme. It offers direct admissions to the shortlisted candidates through the management quota seats it has.
Graduates with a degree in social work have numerous employment opportunities in sectors such as community development, education, industry, consulting, family, rehabilitation centres, correction centres, health care, women, children, disability, social defense, poverty groups etc. There is a great demand for BSW professionals as India is still a developing country and half of the counties population is below the poverty line.
